My Dad.....Papa Bill

I wanted everyone to get to see the obituary that I put in the Kanab, Utah newspaper. My sister Sarah Beth wrote it. My dad passed away from congestive heart failure in December of 2006. It was quite a shock to all of us. We miss him daily. I will put in a few more pics of dad, as well as updates on mom since she insists on hiding from all of us. You thought it was just you, didn't you!

Paige, TX – William (Bill) Joseph Opfel, husband of Jeanie Diane Manning Opfel, passed away on Dec. 6, 2006. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 28, 1951. He was the son of the late Wellington Royal Opfel and Madalon Elizabeth Smith Opfel. He is preceded in death by his older brother, Robert “Bobby” Opfel. Mr. Opfel is survived by his sister, Patricia “Patsy” Opfel Neary, his younger brother, Tom Gerard Opfel, wife, Jeanie, his 7 children: Katy Deanne Opfel McDonald, Ned Joseph Opfel, Sarah Beth Opfel Carter, Rebecca Anne Opfel Trejo, Virginia Elizabeth Opfel John, Benjamin Jacob Opfel, and Isaac Daniel Opfel. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren: Derek, Colten, Jake, Travis, Isabelle, Briley, Stella, Daisy, Chandler, Miley, Carson, Paden, and Kotter.

Bill Opfel graduated from A&M University in College Station, Texas with a degree in Geology. The majority of his work life was spent in geological pursuits varying from environmental studies to the manufacturing and production of new products based on his professional geological experience and knowledge. He and his family lived in: San Antonio, Texas, Boerne, Texas, Fredericksburg, Texas, Kanab, Utah, and Mesa, Arizona. He and his wife, Jeanie, most recently resided together in Paige, Texas. Bill enjoyed the focus on family encouraged by his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and never fell short of people who loved him. Bill loved the outdoors: surfing, hiking, canoeing, biking, and camping. He was often an active volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America allowing him to share his eccentric knowledge of survival techniques and his enjoyment of nature.

A graveside service was held at the Fairview Cemetery, in Bastrop, Texas on December 9th, 2006.

I never knew your dad really well, but to us he was "Papa Bill" and we love him. That is great.

That's the obituary that I wrote, isn't it? We didn't end up using it for the paper down here. Which paper did you put it in? It was Kanab, right? Did you order one? Scan it in and email me a copy if you get a chance.

And it is TOTALLY "Poppa Bill" not Papa Bill. Cut it out...
