I did a little mapquesting to show the kids how far Alaska is from where we are now! They just weren't getting it via the map. Wow! There is a special Alaska highway that you take, that it says basically will only have a gas station every 300 miles or something like that. It has so many rules that it made me nervous that I would forget them all! Here is one more interesting fact that I found tonight:
Daylight Hours
Let there be light! In Anchorage, there are 24 hours of functional daylight on Summer Solstice. The further north you travel, the more sun you get in the summer; in Barrow the sun does not set for 84 days! The day with the least amount is on Winter Solstice, yet Anchorage still enjoys five hours, 28 minutes of daylight. During winter, the farther north the fewer the daylight hours. Anchorage gains daylight rapidly until Summer Solstice, which occurs around June 21 and we have nearly 24 hours of functional daylight.

i guess you would have to have really good shades to block the sun so you could sleep! otherwise you would never be able to rest!
