The day Clint left for Iraq, he and Melinda were driving onto Fort Bragg when he said, "Now, remember what we've talked about."
"What exactly are you referring to?" she asked.
"I just want you to remember that I want to be buried in a pine box and I want you to remarry and be happy."
"Stop talking like that," she said gently. In the nine years they had been married, she had relied on their Mormon faith during his previous deployments to Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. She and Clint had been sealed in a special ceremony in the temple two years after they were married, to ensure that if they lived righteous lives, they and all the children would be together forever, even after death: an eternal family. She had faith that everything happened for a reason, and if it were Clint's time to go, the Lord would take him, whether he was asleep in his bed or in the middle of a war. And if instead he was meant to come home again, and hoot and groan with Zack in front of a video game and run his fingers through little Maddie's hair while he cuddled with her, his face dreamy, she trusted that he would. Clint did not return back from Iraq. He was killed by an IED.

You know, that's the way I feel about Dad. I loved our life . . . here. . .but it was his time to go. I trust that whatever plan Heavenly Father has for us and our family. I also know that our lives here on earth are very short compared to what is to come!
Hey- what's going on with those kiddos of yours....more pictures of the MCboys please!!
Hi Katy. It's Bonnie Harkey again. My husband and I are serving in a Bishopric (well - he is) in a singles ward and one of the girls is just about to marry someone who is going into the service soon. She is really nervous so I told her about you (yes I do blog-stalk sometimes) and she asked if she could read your blog and communicate with you. She is scared/nervous about living the military life. I told her how amazing you are and she wants to communicate with you if that would be OK. Her name is Jill and her e-mail address is jillsoutham@gmail.com Hope you don't mind. Hope all is well with you and your darling family. We pray for you military families everyday!
absolutely Bonnie! I will email her. The military is it's own little world, with even it's own language. I will email her. I was blessed when I was new to the military, to have a lot of higher ranking people take me under their wing and show me the ropes. I was going to email you back, but I didn't have your email address. Thanks for your prayers it really does mean a lot.
That is awesome- sounds like a great book!
